The hospital is specialized in the rehabilitation of disabled war veterans and other elderly people. The building is situated in a park by a river in a suburban area of Helsinki. It has a total of 100 beds, of which 40 are for permanent patients, 40 for patients spending 3 to 4 weeks in rehabilitation, and 20 for day-care patients. The hospital also houses facilities for medical examination and treatment, a rehabilitation unit, a swimming pool and hobby areas, and necessary supplementary services. The interior of the hospital consists of home-like spaces with much natural light, with wooden and tile surfaces, and with many plants and paintings, creating a very non-hospital-like atmosphere.
